## Introduction

### What is Polymarket?

Polymarket is an information markets platform that lets you trade on the world’s most highly-debated topics (e.g. coronavirus, politics, current events, etc). On Polymarket, you build a portfolio based on your forecasts and earn a return if you are right. When you decide to buy shares in a market, you are weighing in with your own knowledge, research, and view of the future. Market prices reflect what traders think are the odds of future events, turning trading activity into actionable insights that help people make better decisions. As a result, Polymarket is a leading source of unbiased and real-time data about future events.

### What is an information market?

An information market is where people buy and sell shares on how a future event will resolve. Prices change in response to trading activity. You can buy, trade, or sell shares in future outcomes.

### What blockchain is Polymarket built on?

Polymarket is built on the Polygon blockchain, which enables users to purchase and sell tokens without network fees.

# Overview

**Start here!** If this is your first time using Polymarket, you likely fall into one of these groups (see below👇).

{% hint style="info" %}
If you are **experienced with Crypto, USDC, wallets, and exchanges**, then skip this overview and go to [creating an account](/getting-started/connecting) or [depositing USDC](/getting-started/depositing-usdc#overview).
{% endhint %}

### #1 - You do not have any Crypto.

If you are new to Crypto, don't worry, we'll walk you through it. In order to start trading on Polymarket, you have to first create an account, and then fund your wallet with USDC.

1. **Creating an Account** - The recommended method is to use your email address and we'll send you a "magic link" to instantly set up your account and Polymarket wallet. Go [here](/getting-started/connecting/signing-up) for a step-by-step walkthrough.
2. **Buying USDC** - Trading happens on Polymarket with USDC tokens. The easiest way to get USDC if you don't already have any Cryptocurrency is to buy it directly on Crypto.com with a credit card or bank account. Go [here](https://help.crypto.com/en/articles/1961288-how-to-purchase-cro-with-a-credit-debit-card) for a step-by-step walkthrough.
3. **Funding your Wallet** - Now that you have USDC in your free Crypto.com wallet, you can easily transfer it to your Polymarket wallet for a flat fee of $0.08. Go [here](/getting-started/depositing-usdc/from-an-exchange/crypto.com-deposits) for a step-by-step walkthrough.
4. **Doing your First Trade** - Now you're ready to trade. Start by browsing interesting markets [here](https://polymarket.com/) or go [here](/getting-started/making-a-trade) for a step-by-step walkthrough for participating in markets.

### #2 - You have Crypto, but not USDC.

If you are somewhat familiar with Crypto and have some in a wallet or exchange, then you're ready to create an account and fund your wallet. You'll have to convert some crypto to USDC first.

1. **Creating an Account** - The recommended method is to use your email address and we'll send you a "magic link" to instantly set up your account and Polymarket wallet. Go [here](/getting-started/connecting/signing-up) for a step-by-step walkthrough.
2. **Converting to USDC** - Trading happens on Polymarket with USDC tokens. So first you need to "swap" some of your existing Crypto for USDC. Exchanges like Coinbase and Crypto.com make it easy to convert BTC, ETH, SOL and just about any token you might own into USDC. Many wallets like Exodus and Metamask also let you convert one token for another.
3. **Funding your Wallet** - Once you've converted some existing Crypto to USDC, you're ready to fund your Polymarket wallet. We recommend using Crypto.com for sending USDC to your Polymarket account because it's fast and nearly free. Create a free Crypto.com account, then send your USDC to your Crypto.com wallet. Now you can easily transfer it to your Polymarket wallet for a flat fee of $0.08.

### #3 - You have USDC in a wallet or exchange.

If you are familiar with Crypto and you have some USDC in a wallet or exchange, you are ready to create a Polymarket account and deposit some funds.

1. **Creating an Account** - The recommended method is to use your email address and we'll send you a "magic link" to instantly set up your account and Polymarket wallet. Go [here](/getting-started/connecting/signing-up) for a step-by-step walkthrough.
2. **Funding your Wallet** - We recommend using Crypto.com for sending USDC to your Polymarket account because it's fast and nearly free. Create a free Crypto.com account, then send your USDC to your Crypto.com wallet. Now you can easily transfer it to your Polymarket wallet for a flat fee of $0.08. Go [here](/getting-started/depositing-usdc/from-an-exchange/crypto.com-deposits) for a step-by-step walkthrough.
3. **Doing your First Trade** - Now you're ready to trade. Start by browsing interesting markets [here](https://polymarket.com/) or go [here](/getting-started/making-a-trade) for a step-by-step walkthrough for participating in markets.

{% hint style="info" %}
What is USDC? USDC is a [stablecoin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stablecoin) that is pegged to the US dollar. You can always redeem 1 USD Coin for US $1.00, giving it a stable price.

# General

### **What is Polymarket?**

### What blockchain is Polymarket built on?

Polymarket is built on the Polygon blockchain, which enables users to purchase and sell tokens without network fees.

### What is USDC and where can I buy it?

USD Coin (USDC) is a type of cryptocurrency called a stablecoin. Since 1 USDC can be redeemed for exactly $1.00 USD, the price is always stable. Polymarket uses USDC for transaction speed, security, and transparency. You can purchase USDC directly on a centralized exchange like [Coinbase](http://coinbase.com/usdc), a [debit/credit card](/getting-started/depositing-usdc/debit-or-credit-card-deposits) on Polymarket for non-US residents, or a decentralized exchanged like [Uniswap](https://app.uniswap.org/#/swap).

### What browsers do you support?

You can freely navigate and explore the site with any browser. You can sign up, deposit, withdraw and trade with the following browsers:

| Supported Desktop Browsers | Supported Mobile Browsers |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------- |
| Chrome | Chrome |
| Firefox | MetaMask |
| Safari | |
| Brave | |

{% hint style="info" %}
The MetaMask app is required for MetaMask mobile deposits
{% endhint %}

### **What are your trading hours?**

Polymarket is built on the Polygon blockchain. As a result, Polymarket is always open for trading.

# Connecting to Polymarket

### What is a proxy wallet?

**TLDR: Proxy wallets allow you to make transactions without owning $MATIC and approving every market, saving you time and money.**

A typical trade requires gas to approve and then initiate the transaction. If Polymarket did not use proxy wallets, you would need to own $MATIC to approve a market (30-60 seconds) and then initiate the transaction (20-40 seconds).

Proxywallets enable you to submit transactions through a relayer that will pay the gas, removing the need to approve every single market and pay for gas yourself.

# Deposits & Withdrawals

### **Why are there fees to deposit and withdraw my USDC and why do I need to pay them?**

To interact with the Ethereum blockchain, users have to pay gas to have their transactions processed. This is true for any application built on Ethereum that is performing a transaction on the blockchain.

For Polymarket users, there are two times where they will have to pay gas fees: (1) when depositing funds and (2) when withdrawing funds. For more details, see [Getting Started](/getting-started/overview)**.**

{% hint style="info" %}
Fees are paid directly to miners and relayers. Polymarket does not take any fees from deposits and withdrawals.
{% endhint %}

### Why did the network fee become more or less expensive?

The Ethereum network can process a limited number of transactions per second. Those transactions are selected by the amount of gas the user is willing to pay from highest to lowest. Generally, the price of gas increases when there is greater demand across the network and decreases when the network is less congested.

### I deposited USDC using MetaMask but my funds aren't appearing.

If this was your first time using MetaMask on Polymarket, you paid a one-time fee to authorize USDC on Polymarket. Please initiate the deposit again!

If this is not your first time using MetaMask, check [etherscan.io ](https://etherscan.io/)if your transaction was successful. If the transaction was confirmed, you will receive the USDC in approximately 10 minutes!

### How is the network fee calculated?

The network fee is comprised of 1) the [Ethereum gas fee](/faq/deposits-and-withdrawals#what-are-ethereum-gas-fees-and-why-do-i-need-to-pay-them) and 2) the relayer fee. The Ethereum gas fee is a systematic fee that is required to send funds from one wallet address to another. This fee is traditionally paid in ETH and is an additional cost. Our deposit method takes a USDC fee from the existing deposit amount, saving you time and getting rid of the need to pay in an entirely separate currency.

![](/files/-Mgw_hY4pocGKfnb8zJh)

Direct USDC deposits are fully decentralized, meaning that any person can decide to help Polymarket provide this service. People are incentivized to help through a relayer fee. The relayer fee will be either (1) $3 + the network fee or (2) 0.3%, depending on which is higher. If the gas fee is 10 USDC, that means that the relayer fee will default to 3 USDC unless the deposit is greater than 4,333.33 USDC (4,333 \* 0.3% = 10 + 3).

### How do I know if a Peer-to-peer user is trustworthy?

There has been no report of a user scamming another user since we have implemented the peer-to-peer system. To verify a user, you can join our Discord and type `,p2p` in the #peer-to-peer channel to verify if a user has completed P2P transactions in the past. You can also search `from:[username]` in the top right of our Discord to check that they are an active participant and have completed a P2P transaction in the past.

### Why is my debit or credit card not working?

Transak has limits on the amount of USDC purchased depending on your location. Check if you are able to use this method [here](https://www.notion.so/On-ramp-Buy-Crypto-976ee96fc0764628ba990b550b1310d3). If the problem persists, please contact Transak [here](https://support.transak.com/hc/en-us).

### I had an old, pending manual deposit/withdrawal and I can't find it anymore. What happened to my funds?

We have recently upgraded our deposit processes to allow users to pay in USDC rather than ETH, which affects users who were using our legacy system involving the ETH network fee. Please head to <https://manual.polymarket.com/> to process your deposit. We apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this may have caused.

### 10 minutes have passed and I still haven't received my funds.

If you are waiting for a Hop withdrawal, please email <hello@polymarket.com> with the amount of USDC you were withdrawing and the destination address. If you are waiting for a Manual or MetaMask deposit, there may be network congestion and your funds will arrive in a few minutes. Please contact <hello@polymarket.com> if the issue persists.

### I sent the wrong token to my address. How do I recover it?

**Email (Polygon)**

\
**Email (Ethereum)**

\
**MetaMask**\
1\. Go to <https://gnosis-safe.io/> and connect your MetaMask wallet

2\. Select `Add Existing Safe`

3\. Select the network where your tokens are located

4\. Copy your address from <https://polymarket.com/profile> and paste it as the Safe Address

5\. View the created safe and click Send to send your token to another address. (NOTE: Your MetaMask wallet must own ETH/MATIC in order to send the token.)

# Liquidity

### How does liquidity work at Polymarket?

The current market structure uses [Automated Market Makers (AMMs)](/glossary#automated-market-maker). Rather than have a centralized market maker that provides liquidity like the NYSE, the markets allow any user to add liquidity to the pool of assets.

Each liquidity pool (LP) share that is owned will mint a set of 1 token for each outcome. If there is a question with outcomes YES and NO, each LP share mints 1 YES and 1 NO.

### Why is liquidity necessary for the markets?

Lower liquidity causes a larger, negative price impact when buying or selling outcome tokens. Imagine that there was an Olympic swimming pool and a children's pool. If someone took out 3 liters of water, the volume of the smaller pool would decrease by a greater percentage than the larger pool.

### What is the incentive for me to add liquidity?

Users that add liquidity earn a percentage of each trade, proportionate to their ownership of the liquidity pool. This fee varies and can be seen in the buy/sell widget. For example, Alice owns $1,000 of liquidity in a $10,000 pool with a 2% LP fee. Bob buys $5,000 worth of tokens, which means Alice would earn $10 (5,000 \* 0.02 \* (1,000/10,000)).

There is also an incentive to provide liquidity for the public good. Many people visit the site to see the probability of events that matter to them. The more liquidity that is provided, the more participants will participate in the market, increasing the accuracy of the data.

### How do I know how many liquidity shares I will get?

The number of LP shares you receive depends on the price of the outcomes. The more one-sided a market is, the fewer LP shares you will receive per dollar (see diagram below). Instead of receiving LP shares, you will get compensated in outcome tokens of the most probable event.

![](/files/-MkIKCoixzOyhBmZ3wve)

### Are there any risks to adding liquidity?

Adding liquidity to markets can be very rewarding but requires management to prevent losses. The greatest risk to an LP is when prices shift dramatically, causing the outcome tokens to lose value.

For example, Bob adds $100 USDC to the liquidity pool when YES is $0.90 and NO is $0.10. He gets 10 LP tokens and $90 worth of YES. If the price of YES suddenly changes to $0.50, Bob's YES tokens are now only worth $50, resulting in a 40% loss.

### I received an error when I tried to remove my liquidity. What do I do?

Purchase $1 worth of outcome tokens in the market and try removing your liquidity again. If your problem persists, please contact us on [Discord](https://discord.com/invite/hGYPGru) or Intercom.

# Markets

### **What is an information market?**

An information market is where people buy and sell shares on how a future event will resolve. Prices change in response to trading activity. You can buy, trade, or sell shares in future outcomes.

### **Who sets the probabilities on a market?**

The prices of shares in each market reflect the probabilities of the outcomes. Shares are valued between $0.00 and $1.00 and prices change depending on traders’ collective beliefs on the likelihood of the market resolving in either direction. For instance, if the price for a “Yes” share is $0.75, then the market believes the probability that the event will occur is 75%.

### What are the different types of markets?

There are 3 types of markets that currently exist:

* **Binary -** A market with two options that will resolve either $1 or $0. (ex: Will Tetranode have over 100k Twitter followers by 12/31/2025? YES/NO)
* **Categorical -** A market with multiple options that will resolve either $1 or $0. (ex: What ice cream will have the most sales in 2025? Chocolate/Vanilla/Strawberry/Other)
* **Scalar -** A market that resolves to where the final value sits between a lower and upper bound.
  * What will the population of Spain be in their upcoming census (47M-55M)? Long/Short)
  * If the population is 50M, the outcomes will resolve to: Long = $0.375 & Short = $0.625

### I have a great idea for a market. Do you take suggestions?

Our community is always open to ideas! Check out our [Discord](https://discord.gg/Polymarket) and explain your idea on the “formal-market-suggestions” channel.

# Portfolio & Shares

### **Do I have to pay a fee to make a transaction?**

Every transaction incurs a fee paid out directly to liquidity providers (LPs) because facilitating transactions in a market requires liquidity. More liquidity in a market reduces slippage for users when they purchase shares. Without liquidity, there would be significant price slippage. Polymarket does not charge fees for trading.

### **How do I decide whether to buy shares?**

The price of a share corresponds to the probability of an outcome occurring. If a “Yes” share on an event is trading at $0.60, then the market believes the probability of that event occurring is 60%. If you believe that there is a greater than 60% chance of that event occurring, then it may be a good time to buy. This is because the market is underestimating what you think will happen.

### **I've changed my mind about a transaction. Can I sell my shares?**

You can buy and sell shares at any time before the market resolves. If you have shares that have risen in value since you bought them, you can cash them out for a profit. If you wait until the market resolves, "Yes" shares will be worth $1 if the event occurs and "No" shares will be worth $0. The opposite is true if the event does not occur.

### **When does a market close?**

A market typically closes within 24 to 48 hours. This can be based on a date or a specific event occurring or not occurring. Market topics usually use an external source to verify the correct resolution. Market outcomes can be proposed by anyone at [https://oracle.umaproject.org](https://oracle.umaproject.org/). If there is a dispute as to whether the proposed answer is correct, the market will go through UMA's dispute process: more information about UMA can be found at <https://umaproject.org/>. For more information on what happens after a market closes, see the “Market Resolution” section below.

### **What are my shares worth if I hold them until the market is resolved?**

When the market resolves, correct shares are worth $1.00 while incorrect shares are worth nothing. If you have shares on the correct outcome, visit the market page to redeem your winnings. Redeeming shares does not incur the liquidity fee.

### **Can I own both ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ shares for a market at the same time?**

You can own “Yes” shares and “No” shares in the same market. Holding 1 “Yes” share and 1 “No” share is equivalent to having $1.00 (minus trading fees). As a result, Polymarket allows you to merge these shares back into USDC.

### I received an error when I submitted my transaction. What do I do?

If your transaction repeatedly fails, you can try the following solutions:

* Increase the slippage, which can be found by clicking the cog icon in the buy/sell widget
* If you are trying to buy/sell the "max" you own, enter a value slightly less than "max"
* Log out and log back in, or try logging in on a different device
* If you pay for your own gas using MetaMask advance, increase the GWEI value on the preferences page
* If you are removing liquidity, purchase $1 worth of shares and then remove the liquidity

If transactions keep getting rejected, please contact us on Intercom or [Discord](https://discord.gg/hGYPGru).

### Can I set my own gas when submitting a transaction?

MetaMask users can set and pay for their own gas by visiting the preferences page and turning on the Custom Gas toggle. In order for this feature to work, the parent MetaMask account must own enough $MATIC to submit a transaction.

# Resolution

### **What happens when a market resolves?**

When a market resolves, correct shares can be redeemed for $1.00 each. All other shares will be worth nothing.

### **What should I do when a market resolves?**

You can visit the market page to redeem your winnings for correct shares. Otherwise, visit the market page to clear incorrect shares from your portfolio.

### **Can there be more than one winner in a market?**

When a market resolves, every correct share can be redeemed for $1.00. As a result, there can be many winners per market.

# Security

### Have Polymarket's smart contacts been audited?

Polymarket's smart contracts have been audited by Quantstamp. We will continue to audit and battle test our contracts in the future, but note that an audit does not guarantee that a project is foolproof.

### Where are my funds if you don't use MetaMask?

All of your USDC and market shares are securely held in a blockchain wallet. This wallet can only be accessed by the owner of the email with which it is linked. Polymarket has no access to these funds. All funds would remain in your wallet, and you will be able to retrieve them using your email address. You can read more [here](https://docs.magic.link/security).

### **Why does Magic Link need my email?**

Magic Link links your email to provide you with an Ethereum Wallet that is unique to you. They are a trusted and audited solution. Read more about their security [here](https://docs.magic.link/security).

### How can I export my private key?

Head to <https://reveal.magic.link/polymarket>. Copy your private key, and open up your [MetaMask](https://metamask.io/download.html). Select the circle in the upper-right corner, click `Import Account`, and paste your private key.

### Will you ever ask for my private key?

Polymarket team members will never ask for your private key. Do not send your private key to anyone.

# Glossary

## Arbitrage

The trading of a coin or crypto derivative, where the price spread between two different markets or exchanges for the same asset or product is utilized to earn greater profits.

In DeFi, automated yield farming uses algorithmic arbitrage strategies to maximize returns for investors. These arbitrage strategies may include buying, selling, lending, and/or providing liquidity of one or more digital assets, often in the same day.

## Automated Market Maker

An Automated Market Maker (AMM) is a decentralized asset trading pool that enables market participants to buy or sell cryptocurrencies. AMMs are non-custodial and permissionless in nature. Most AMMs utilize either a constant product, constant mean, or constant sum market-making formula; however, the most common is a constant product market maker, most notably [Uniswap](https://uniswap.info/).

## Decentralized Application (Dapp)

Dapps are open-source protocols that exist on a P2P blockchain such as Ethereum and can support smart contracts.

## Ethereum

Ethereum is a decentralized blockchain that enables users to send cryptocurrency to each other which requires a small network fee, known as [gas](/glossary#gas-fees). ETH is the cryptocurrency required to pay the gas.

## Gas Fees

Gas fees are rewards paid to Proof Of Work miners to incentivize them to support the network's transactions which become written to the blockchain. In Ethereum, this gas fee unit amount is expressed in gwei. Withdrawals or transfers to or from CEXs, DEXs Liquidity Pools, and Wallets all incur a gas fee. The amount of this gas fee will vary in cost depending on supply and demand. As currently designed: when demand on Ethereum or an ERC-20 network is at its highest, gas fees are at also their highest.

## Liquidity Pool

Liquidity pools are a collection of assets that facilitates decentralized trading and lending. Users that provide liquidity (LPs) take a small fee of each trade that occurs in their liquidity pool. In the case of Polymarket, a liquidity pool would consist of YES and NO shares. LPs add pairs of YES and NO to the pool and get a fee for each trade, proportionate to the total liquidity pool.

## MetaMask

MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet that enables users to hold various cryptoassets and connects users to [dapps](/glossary#decentralized-application-dapp).

## Polygon (formerly Matic)

Polygon is an Ethereum-compatible sidechain, intended to improve the scalability of decentralized applications as a whole. Polymarket is one of the many [dapps](/glossary#decentralized-application-dapp) that is built on Polygon's growing ecosystem.

## Outcome Token

Outcome tokens (outcome shares) represent a position in an information market and are redeemable for $1 or $0 depending on if the market resolves favorably or unfavorably.

## Scalar Markets

Scalar markets are a unique type of market that predicts where a value will fall between a specified range rather than one outcome or another.

## Slippage (External)

External slippage is when [outcome token](/glossary#outcome-token) prices change because another user submits an order right before another order. Larger orders tend to shift prices more, so there are safeguards on Polymarket to cancel an order if there is too much external slippage.

## Slippage (Internal)

Internal slippage is the change in prices due to a user's own order. Larger orders and low-liquidity markets tend to shift prices unfavorably.

## USD Coin (USDC)

USDC is a cryptocurrency stablecoin created by [Circle](https://www.circle.com/en/usdc) and is backed by the US Dollar. 1 USDC is equivalent to $1.00 USD, thus giving it a stable price. USDC is [audited](https://www.centre.io/usdc-transparency) by an independent firm every quarter in order to guarantee that there is $1.00 USD backing every 1 USDC.

# Polymarket + UMA

## Overview

Polymarket supports UMA as a resolution source for markets displayed on the Polymarket.com interface. Polymarket, at its core, is oracle agonistic, but the UMA integration provides another option for market creators.

The Polymarket-UMA adapter is deployed on the Polygon network at the following address:

[0x6A9D222616C90FcA5754cd1333cFD9b7fb6a4F74](https://polygonscan.com/address/0x6A9D222616C90FcA5754cd1333cFD9b7fb6a4F74)

And the code is open source and available in the following repository:

[github.com/polymarket/uma-ctf-adapter](https://github.com/Polymarket/uma-ctf-adapter)

## What is UMA?

[UMA](https://uma.xyz/) is an Oracle system that uses economic guarantees to secure markets. Unlike mechanically restrictive price feed oracles, an optimistic oracle is able to serve any arbitrary data on-chain. UMA’s flexible oracle serves data for uses including a cross-chain bridge, insurance, and custom derivatives.

For markets secured by UMA’s Optimistic Oracle(referred to as the OO), UMA token holders are an impartial arbiter of the outcomes of relevant markets. These markets can proceed with an entirely decentralized and trustless resolution mechanism.

## **How does the Polymarket UMA integration Work?**

Underlying each market displayed on the Polymarket.com interface is a condition, prepared using the Gnosis conditional token framework (CTF). Per Gnosis’s documentation, “a condition is a question to be answered in the future by a specific oracle in a particular manner.”

For a market to be resolved by the OO, there must be a smart contract that acts a bridge between the OO and the market. That contract is the UMA CTF Adapter.

When a market is first created, the Adapter automatically sends a Request for that market to the OO.

Actors in the UMA system called *proposers* can then `propose`an answer to the Request. All proposers need to submit a bond to be considered. If this answer is not disputed, it is considered to be correct and will be available to the Adapter after a challenge period of 2 hours.

If the answer proposed is incorrect, or if there is disagreement on what the answer should be, other actors in the UMA system called *disputers* can `dispute` this answer.

The first time a Request is disputed, the Adapter ignores the dispute and creates a new Request with the same parameters. This ensures that malicious or mistaken disputes do not slow down market resolution.

If the Request is disputed again, this indicates a more fundamental disagreement among proposers and the Request will be sent to UMA's DVM where it will be voted on by UMA token holders.

The Adapter is open source, mostly permissionless code. That said, there exists some admin functionality in case of catastrophic or emergency situations:

1. The admin can [`reset`](https://github.com/Polymarket/uma-ctf-adapter/blob/4333e30e5f6b024a4991a2a9f9602d9a11647d53/src/UmaCtfAdapter.sol#L193) the market, creating a new UMA Request and ignoring all previous or outstanding Requests.
2. The admin can [`pause`](https://github.com/Polymarket/uma-ctf-adapter/blob/4333e30e5f6b024a4991a2a9f9602d9a11647d53/src/UmaCtfAdapter.sol#L220)(and [`unpause`](https://github.com/Polymarket/uma-ctf-adapter/blob/4333e30e5f6b024a4991a2a9f9602d9a11647d53/src/UmaCtfAdapter.sol#L231)) resolution for a market.
3. The admin can [`flag`](https://github.com/Polymarket/uma-ctf-adapter/blob/4333e30e5f6b024a4991a2a9f9602d9a11647d53/src/UmaCtfAdapter.sol#L178) a market to be emergency resolved. After a defined delay of 2 days, the admin can [`emergencyResolve`](https://github.com/Polymarket/uma-ctf-adapter/blob/4333e30e5f6b024a4991a2a9f9602d9a11647d53/src/UmaCtfAdapter.sol#L205) the market

# Order Books

### What is an order book?

An order book is a list of buys (a.k.a "bids") and sells (a.k.a "asks") submitted by parties at various price points.

### What types of trades can I make on an order book?

There are two types of orders that you can submit: market and limit orders.

**Market** **orders** are when you buy or sell shares from the pool of existing orders in the market. For example, Bob wants to buy 100 shares of NO. He looks at the order book and sees that there are "asks" for 75 shares @ $0.50 and 100 shares @ $0.55. If Bob places a market order for 100 shares, he will buy all of the 75 shares @ $0.50 and 25 shares @ $0.55.

**Limit orders** are when you buy or sell shares based on a specific maximum price and amount. Assuming the scenario is the same above, Bob wants to place an order for 100 shares of NO @ $0.51. If he places the order, he will buy all 75 shares @ $0.50, but the remaining 25 shares will not be "filled" and will appear on the order book instead.

### Are there fees on the order book?

There are currently no fees for our order books.

### What is the API key for?

In order to trade on Polymarket questions, you must generate an API key. This key is unique to each account and will not require you to re-generate it if you keep using the same browser. However, you will need to re-generate the API key if you sign in with another browser or device.

### Do all Polymarket questions have order books?

Not all questions on Polymarket have order books. Some will still use the AMM structure.

# Liquidity Mining & Trading Rewards

## Overview

Starting Feb 17th, Polymarket will begin some experiments around liquidity incentives and alternative LP fee parameters, this will also help distribute UMA to further decentralize governance. Initially, the experiment will subsidize two activities: 1) liquidity provisioning in designated markets and 2) fee rebates. Qualified users will be able to view and manage their rewards through a new page on the Polymarket interface. The goal of this program is to experiment with incentivization schemes and to help catalyze a more sustainable and organic marketplace paying specific attention to supply-side dynamics.

50,000 USDC and 10,000 UMA will be distributed to users in the first epoch through liquidity provisioning, fee rebates, and community bounties.

1. **Liquidity provisioning:** Users can provide liquidity to a select number of markets in each epoch. Liquidity rewards are calculated per block, rewarding users who provide constant levels of liquidity. The eligible markets can be found on the [rewards page](https://polymarket.com/rewards) or indicated with a ⚡️ on the [markets page](https://polymarket.com/).
2. **Fee rebates:** Users can also earn rewards proportionate to the fees they pay when trading. Fee rewards are calculated by dividing the users' fees by the total protocol fees at the end of the epoch.
3. **Community bounties:** Bounties are distributed each week to users who provide a meaningful and impactful service to the community or the protocol. This can include but is not limited to marketing material, Discord moderation, and much more!

## Details

### Methodology

The starting ruleset, defined below, is subject to change in later epochs as feedback is collected and further considerations are made.

**Liquidity rewards** for an LP over an epoch will be calculated as the sum of the following across all qualifying markets:

![](/files/SJeJ2DoBZAaHhhImkeIF)

This essentially says LPs will earn a pro rata distribution of the reward available each block for a market based on their relative liquidity share.

**Fee rewards** for a trader over an epoch are calculated daily and then summed. Each day the following calculation is made with the totalFeeRewards available for that day (starting and ending at 12:00 PM ET) being 1/7th of the total fee rewards available for the epoch.

![](/files/eJ4Xbc1c5cOLUf5cc2CG)

In effect, fee rewards are distributed pro rata based on a trader's daily share of total fees paid. The right to disqualify wash trading from the reward distribution is reserved. Additionally trades that have an average price of more than 98 cents are not qualified for trading rewards.

### Parameterization and Claiming

For the first 7-day epoch there will be \~50,000 USDC and \~10,000 UMA available. The specific distribution of rewards for the current epoch, along with estimated LP APR per market, estimated user’s epoch rewards and additional details will be viewable on the rewards page of the Polymarket interface.

### Claiming

Once an epoch has ended and new one has started, users will be able to claim their rewards, through either the Polymarket rewards interface, an alternative interface, or directly on-chain. Claiming is done through merkle distributors. The code for these distributors, along with a complementary SDK and the mapping used to generate each epoch’s merkle root (user’s merkle root claim indexes), will be open sourced and made available in the polymarket-liq-ming repo.

## FAQ

**How do I see the rewards that I have earned this epoch?**

You can view epoch data on the [rewards page](https://polymarket.com/rewards).

**When can I claim my rewards?**

Rewards are distributed to eligible addresses at the end of each epoch. Rewards roll over every epoch so you can claim them at the time most convenient for you!

**Can I claim rewards directly to an exchange?**

Rewards are distributed on the Polygon blockchain, so it is not recommended to put an exchange address as the destination. In order to guarantee access to your tokens, send them to a wallet located on the Polygon blockchain.

HOW TO ENTER: Enter the Giveaway during the Promotion Period online by (1) trading in any market categorized as “NBA Playoffs” by the conclusion of the First Round of the NBA Playoffs, the NBA Conference Semifinals, or the NBA Conference Finals to be eligible for the random drawing (date dependent on the random drawing the user is entering). Entries received after the conclusion of the First Round of the NBA Playoffs, the NBA Conference Semifinals, or the NBA Conference Finals but before a random drawing is held will be rolled over to the next random drawing if applicable. After each random drawing, Entrants must trade again in another market categorized as “NBA Playoffs” to be eligible for the next random drawing.

Entrants also receive additional entries for each user they refer that (1) creates a new Polymarket account (existing users ineligible), (2) uses the Entrant’s username as their referral code, and (3) trades in any market categorized as “NBA Playoffs” by the conclusion of the First Round of the NBA Playoffs, the NBA Conference Semifinals, or the NBA Conference Finals to be eligible for the random drawing (date dependent on the random drawing the user is entering). Entries received after the conclusion of the First Round of the NBA Playoffs, the NBA Conference Semifinals, or the NBA Conference Finals but before a random drawing is held will be rolled over to the next random drawing if applicable. These additional entries are only applicable for one random drawing. After each random drawing, Entrant must refer more new users who follow the eligibility guidelines above to receive additional entries for the random drawing.

Automated or robotic Entries submitted by individuals or organizations will be disqualified. Internet entry must be made by the Entrant. Any attempt by Entrant to obtain more than the stated number of Entries by using multiple/different email addresses, identities, registrations, logins or any other methods, including, but not limited to, commercial contest/giveaway subscription notification and/or entering services, will void Entrant's Entries and that Entrant may be disqualified. Final eligibility for the award of any prize is subject to eligibility verification as set forth below. All Entries must be posted by the end of the Promotion Period in order to participate. Sponsor's database clock will be the official timekeeper for this Giveaway.
